5.12 2.28 8.0

Ring a bell? Or ring alot of bells?

5.12 = 12 May 2008 (Monday)
The day when the disastrous earthquake hit China.

2.28 = 2.28pm (China time)
The time when the disastrous earthquake hit China.

8.0 = Magnitude of the quake
It's 7.8 or 7.9 actually but many news source just quote is as 8.0

One distressing year ago, China experiencing a terrible nightmare of earthquake. It was a critical moment as China was preparing themselves for the Olympic 2008. With a total figure of 374,031 injured, 69,130 dead and 17,824 missing, we see aid from all over the world.

Lots of innocent children were having their lesson in the school when the monstrous earthquake took their dearly life. Some died while still holding tightly to their pencil, some hid under the desk (which proves to be useless), some can be seen with their hand reaching out of the rumble but dead.

There were some lucky ones though. Mother using her body to protect her new born baby against the fall, teacher evacuating her students out of the school, 11 year old boy piggyback his 3 year old sister and walked 12 hours to the flee disaster center. The one who kneels down and offer his help during critical time is a true hero. Viewing through photos of the disaster makes my eyes watery.

As the months go by, they start to be strong and build back what is lost with aid relief from around the world. Parents breaking into pool of tears upon seeing their dead child, thousands of people are still missing and the injured might have recovered (if not disabled) but the dark memories of being buried for hours will haunt them for life. Death is the last thing anyone would want to encounter but it's unavoidable.

Now, it's been a year. I wonder how's everything. Have they rebuild their home and confidence to taken on future challenge? Was the aid distributed equally? Will the children who lost their family members find warmth? Are the heroes forgotten and left to dead? Where are those people that went missing?

I hope that everything is fine now and peace is being restored. Good luck. Well wishes from me in Singapore to you people out there in China.

Tomorrow, 12 May, let's remember the heroes and the dead at 2.28pm.
