Bring your own bag

Yesterday was the 2nd BYOB (bring your own bag) day. Was it a success?

News report on the television make it seems like almost all customer do bring their own bag. I don't think so. From my visual survey at Tampines Mall NTUC Fairprice yesterday from 9pm to 10pm. I didn't see anyone with their own bag.

Some customer would say "oh it's today hor, I forgot". Anyone donated 10 cents to Singapore Environment Council for each plastic bag used? No. Most would just see see look look at the donation can and carry on with their payment.

Those aggressive customer would try to aruge back. "Why must I pay for the plastic bag, so stingy". Oh stingy huh? I would label you as selfish instead.

You live on this Earth, I live on this Earth, we live on this Earth. While everyone is doing their part to save the Earth, you continue to destroy the Earth. HEY! If you don't want to protect Earth, just freaking get lost and go live in Venus. Why make people suffer with you?

The cashier aunties have to do their job too. Some cashier aunties just ignore the BYOB and continue giving out plastic bag like nobody business. They didn't even bother to ask if customer do bring their own bag or ask for donation. Plain laziness?

Not forgetting those who risk the fact of drying up their saliva. There are actually staffs asking every customer. Greet, smile and Thanks (GST); the basic of customer service. One or two cashier aunties even bother explaining to customer the reason behind BYOB day and the significance of it.

BYOB day is held on every first Wednesday of the month. Make sure you don't give a strange stare to the cashier when they ask you for your bag, it will make you look like a mountain tortise.

I think that the BYOB should be held more often. Once a week. What's the side effect of it being once a week instead of once a month? None. Unless you think that saving the Earth is something bad.

Not only you can bring your own bag during BYOB day, you can bring your own bag everytime you go shopping! The last time I went NTUC to buy some things and I produced my own bag while making payment. The cashier girl gives me the o.O look thinking I'm mad. I'm not.

Saving the Earth starts now.

Remember to bring your own bag on your next trip.
