Tsunami disaster after 1 year

26 December 2004. For some, it's Boxing Day. For some, it's a day where they lost their families, loved ones, business, shelter and others.

26 December 2005. For some, it's still Boxing Day. For some, they still haven't get over the loss of their families and loved ones.

Not long ago, I read a newspaper article on Tsunami after 1 year. It reported that most tsunami victim still doesn't have a proper shelter after one year. Where have all the donations went too? Down the water along with tsunami? I'm not sure.

I'm not concern about, who took the donations or what-so-ever nonsense. My main concern is that whether the victim of the tsunami disaster is living a better life now. Videos/pictures of the tsunami sweeping people away, child looking desparately for their parents, parents crying with their dead children are making me feel sad.

Everyone feels sad. Not only me. I donated only $10 to the Red Cross when they came to my school earlier this year. I wonder if my $10 is put to good use. If I can, I would like to go there to help out with whatever I can help. Cheering up the folks, help with repainting works or donate more money.

People live, people die. People cry, people sad. How long will it take for the affected places to recover to it's vibrant state? How long will it take for the people to get over it? (maybe never) Life have to get on. I hope that they can live on with their life. After all, your eyes are in front of ur head. That's why we must learn to look ahead. Let the past be part of the memories that is not to be erased.

Go.

Number Game

Actually I have made a similar previous post: http://comprehend-me.blogspot.com/2005/10/comparing-height.html
I have decided to make this post because the number involved is not only "height" but more issues.

Life is just like a number game, since the first day you are born. We compete for height, weight. In school, we compare results, value of possessions, ranking. At work, we strive for higher salary, more sales, results. In gaming, we compare for higher level and better equipment value. Almost everything seems to be: the larger the value, the better (unless ranking).

Sometimes, I wonder if this number game is a good thing or a bad thing. On the good side is that we will have better result while striving to achieve higher. On the bad side is that we might lose the basic care of mankind. We no longer care for others, especially our rival, since we think that the fall of our rival will bring us easy success.

I don't know. To me, I don't like all these. Not that I'm not up to the standard to join in the competition. It's just that I feel that all this number game will makes me empty. So what if you win the game? Do you stand to gain anything? It might just end up as a shame.

Recently, I read a gaming forum about someone buying 44 pre-paid cards and another person buy 10+ pre-paid cards. (People just like to show off and compare.) Each cards cost $10.50 including 5% GST. Considering if someone can spend about $105 (for 10 cards) or $462 (for 44 cards) just for some pixel on the computer screen which they can't even possess. If this money, or part of it, is donated to the charity or help to buy those stuff the beggars are selling outside the MRT station, it would mean differently.

Too much of anything will cause harm. If one day people start comparing about how much they donate to the charity every month, it will be meaningless. People will start thinking that money is everything. Actually people need warmth and love too. This world will be so dark and dull if there's no love.

If you are those type of people which spend money on useless stuff. Please start thinking again. I ought to start reflecting on my spending too.
